1 Peter 2:9–10 (ESV) — 9 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
We belong to God! He called us to be His own possession. He has called us is for the purpose of proclaiming His excellencies. The word “excellencies” can also be translated “moral excellence”. In God there is no darkness. He shines bright with marvelous light. How can we not proclaim God to those around us?
This morning as you prepare for church, think about God’s moral excellence. Meditate on his goodness and grace. Prepare your heart to worship joyfully in the assembly of God’s holy nation, your church family.
Also, think about who might need to hear about God’s moral excellence. Is there someone you live near, or work with, or maybe even a family member who is unsaved? Tell them of God’s moral excellence and the gospel. Through the gospel, they can receive God’s moral excellence. Christ, who knew no sin, became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ. This is the hope for our world!
“Father God, fill my heart with gratitude and joy. Help me to see all of Your excellence. Today, may I enter Your gates with thanksgiving and into Your courts with praise. May the songs I sing, and the prayers I pray, exalt You. In Jesus name, amen.”
