2 Thessalonians 1:11–12 (ESV) — 11 “To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by His power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Today, we begin a sermon series entitled, “On Mission Together”. We will be learning about God’s calling on Camano Chapel and our individual lives. As we go on mission together for God, we must understand that anything of value comes by His strength. The apostle Paul tells the Thessalonians that God makes them worthy and He fulfills every resolve for good and every work of faith. This is the same for us. It’s all God’s work!
When we operate in the flesh, we always fall short of the glory of God. We may have a lot of activity and outward success, but it will ultimately lead to failure. Only as we abide in Christ, can we bear much fruit. Apart from Christ we can do nothing (John 15).
I for one am very thankful that God has not called me to struggle and strive to gain His approval. Jesus says that we are to come to Him in our weakness, and He will give us rest. It is from this rest that we can joyfully serve Him and make a difference in our church family, community and ultimately the world. Today, pause to give God glory for what He is accomplishing in your life and the life of our church!
“Father God, In my flesh dwells no good thing. I cannot live the Christian life in my own strength. This morning, I acknowledge that I am but a branch and Jesus is the vine. I must draw all my strength from Him. Thank you that you never called me to the miserable task of trying to perform to gain your favor. In Jesus name, Amen.”
