1 Peter 1:10–12 (ESV) —Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
The Old Testament prophets looked forward to the Messiah. They were not serving themselves but us. We are living in the time of the glorious new covenant. Even the angels are enthralled with the salvation we have received.
It’s easy to get caught up in all the doom and gloom of our time. The news is certainly not cheerful. However, we are living in the best of times! Jesus has died and risen from the dead. We are living in a time of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the promises of God are being revealed in and through us. Meanwhile, we look forward to Jesus returning and making all things right. Rejoice today, for the King is coming!
“Father God, You make all things new. All good things come down from Your hand. I am amazed at Your great salvation. I am thankful that I am living in the best of times. Jesus has come in risen. He has sent His Holy Spirit to permanently indwell me and His church. Instead of being filled with gloom, fill me with Your joy. Give me Your purpose as I reach out to a lost and hurting world. In Jesus name, amen.”
