1 Peter 1:14–16 (ESV) — 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
All children of God have one common characteristic. It’s obedience. We are the children of obedience. As obedient children, we are not to conform to our former ignorant way of life. Without Christ, we had no relationship with God and were not committed to His commandments. We were dead in our sins.
Upon salvation, ignorance is swept away. We come to understand who Jesus is, that He is the way, the truth and the life. We are in relationship with God for all eternity.
This morning, take a moment to evaluate your thoughts and lifestyle. Do they reflect someone living in a growing understanding of God? Are you living out of your true nature, as an obedient child? If not, what issues do you need to address to live up to your high calling in Christ?
“Father God, I no longer want to live in the former ways of ignorance. Now that I am a child of obedience, I desire to reflect my new nature in my thoughts, attitudes and actions. Today, I confess to You that I am struggling with: (Fill in the blank with your struggle). I repent of this sin and am willing to be submissive to You. In Jesus name, amen.”
