Living in Reckless Reliance

By Beth Erickson – Administrative Assistant and Graphic Designer

Life. It throws us crazy curve balls that we cannot see coming, but even when these curve balls hit us, God calls us to keep moving forward- to keep trusting Him, to cling to His promises even though we don’t know what the outcome will be, when the resolution will come or (the best part!) when He will return.

Philippians 3:14 says “I STRAIN (emphasis mine) to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ did for us.” Living in reckless reliance on God requires us to “strain,” to keep moving forward, to move onward so as to make progress. It calls us to honor the blessing that God gave us when His only Son died on the cross for our sins. Hebrews 12:2-3 says “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

As followers of Christ, what is our goal? To live a life that recklessly relies on God, to endure any opposition that flies in our face, to trust Him and His plans for us completely. To look the curve balls of life directly in the face and say “I trust God. I trust His promises. I will not grow weary. I will not lose heart. I will continue to move onward making progress to reach the end of the race and receive the prize.”

Abba, thank you for giving me the blessing of being washed clean by the death of your only Son on the cross, thank you for the promises in your word that I can cling to each day. Thank you for being so trustworthy that I can live in reckless reliance on you, and that I can face any opposition this world throws at me knowing that you are on my side.

Beth Erickson is the Assistant to Children's and Youth Ministries at Camano Chapel, Graphic Designer and Webmaster. She is married and lives on Camano Island.

Surrender Your Will

From Faith Laures

I was chosen to coordinate our All Moms program this year. Little did I know that due to our "current events," I would have to transition the ministry from weekly in-person gatherings to online.

I've had to give up control; what else can you do when a ministry looks nothing like you thought it would? The only thing to do has been to surrender my will and let God pull me along.

Wherever you find yourself this week, God is asking you to be faithful where He has placed you. Who has God given you influence over? What people has He placed in your life to love? Regardless of the obstacles, let's remember to be faithful in the small things and keep an eternal perspective.

Colossians 3:2 - “Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”

Along with being a mother to one and a wife, Faith Laures is Camano Chapel's All Moms Coordinator. All Moms is a ministry to moms with pre-school aged children.

Intimacy and Truth lead to Hope

by Kathy Harrison

I was encouraged today by Revelation 2:1-17: “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! I know about the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death. To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives. Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.”

This passage speaks about how intimacy and truth lead to hope. The message to the church of Ephesus and to us is to remember that Jesus walks among the churches. He knows if we are choosing "effort over intimacy" with Him.

From the message to the church of Smyrna we see that Jesus overcame death, giving us comfort and hope. In the message to the church of Pergamum we see the imagery of Jesus having a sharp two-edged sword coming from His mouth. This symbolizes that the Word of God comes directly from Him. God alone is the source of truth.

Father, thank you that intimacy with Jesus comes through spending time with Him in the Word. Thank you for giving us hope and encouragement through the Word. We confess that we sometimes fall into the trap of choosing effort (busy-ness) over spending time with you. Help us to set aside busy-ness and to focus on deepening our relationship with You through Jesus. Amen.

Kathy Harrison has a background in Women’s Ministries as a previous Director of Women’s Ministries at Camano Chapel and currently serves as the head of Women of Purpose, a group of women who raise money to support World Concerns “One Village Transformed” project in under privileged countries.

Dorfner House Fire in Malden, WA
Marty and Kelly Dorfner, formerly from Camano Chapel, joined Village Missions and left Camano Island in 1979 to begin pastoring. Over the years they have served in 5 different churches providing spiritual leadership. On Monday, Sept. 7th, a raging forest fire engulfed the tiny town of Malden (south of Spokane) in just a couple of hours. 80% of the town was destroyed, including 70 homes, and the Dorfner’s home. With no time to return home to save valuables they lost everything. Camano Chapel is stepping up by sending a financial love gift to assist the Dorfners at this difficult time. If you'd like to help you can:

  1. Make your check out to Camano Chapel.
  2. Write "Dorfner Fire Relief" in the memo line. On the envelope write: "Attention Pastor Mich."

Camano Chapel will send the Dorfners a love gift on Friday morning, Sept. 18th. If you'd like to help these dear friends please make sure your check/cash is received no later than Sept. 17th.nGot questions? Call Pastor Mich at Camano Chapel (360-387-7202).

Whatever is True

By Leanna Crawford

Philippians 4:8-9 says, Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

I was reading these verses and started thinking, what has my mind been consuming lately? To be totally real, it’s been filled with Instagram posts, Tik Tok and Facebook. It’s been drawn to the most recent politics, the fight between who’s correct and who’s in the wrong. My thoughts have been overwhelmed with conspiracy theories and cruel words said on social media between all kinds of people. My mind has been spinning and spiraling.

I believe that’s why Paul is telling the Philippians to fix their thoughts on whatever is true. I may not know what’s always true in the world, but I do know what’s always true every single time - God’s word. Scripture. It is lovely, praiseworthy, and just. It is all of those things. Every. Single. Time. Ahhh. I feel like I’ve been holding my breath while writing my thoughts down and just exhaled deeply with relief.

With everything going on, the more we can choose to fix our thoughts on whatever is pure, commendable, and true, the more we will feel God’s peace.

Magnifying the Lord together

by Joanie Davis

Joanies 8 31devotional picture

Psalm 34:3. "Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together!"

Here is our beloved Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center which has been the site of Camano Chapel women magnifying the Lord together. The fellowship has been sweet. We had no idea what was coming when we gathered there in February of this year. Because of COVID, Cedar Springs has temporarily fallen silent, except for the wonderful kept-up grounds, which also bring glory to the Lord!

So, what now? Magnifying the Lord together has become more challenging. With COVID as a player, the fellowship we  all love has become complicated. My prayer, is that we, who are His people, will not succumb to stressed relationships, but that we would be able to magnify God wherever two or more of us are together. What a wonderful opportunity we have to exalt Him, by rising above difficulties and bringing glory to Him!

God Holds the Puzzle of Life

By Edd Lawhon
Matthew 18:11-14 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.”

Here, Jesus puts the last piece into His puzzle by finding the lost sheep.

Jigsaw puzzles are a great way to pass time. I know that Bill & Marilyn Wayland have a special room where they spend hours together in conversation while assembling puzzles.

We are finding that today’s events are like a Jigsaw puzzle. There are many pieces and many things that don’t fit into our lives anymore. There’s so much going on around us and, like the puzzle, we have to look at the “Big Picture” on the box in order to see what the outcome will be. Well, we don’t have the box. We can’t see what’s coming next.

God holds the puzzle box in His hand so He sees exactly what the final picture/outcome will be, exactly how it’s supposed to look. Our God knows everything that’s going on and it hasn’t come as a surprise to Him.
Each of us is playing a part of this life puzzle and each of us fits into our own special spot, in just the right place, according to God’s plan.

It would appear that this puzzle could be about to be completed and God is putting the final pieces in place. He is holding all of the missing pieces. Perhaps the last piece is about to go into place, any day now!

Prayer – Lord, we don’t know when the end will come, only You know that. It could be within the next moment or in another 1,000 years from now. But we are in Your hands. Ready to be used. Place us exactly where You want us to be. Show us how we can be effective for the cause of Christ in these final days. Give us the desire to continue serving You in our neighborhoods, with our circle of friends- both Christian and non-Christian. We want to be ready with our lamp wicks trimmed with plenty of oil for our lamps. Running the race toward the finish line. We all want to finish strong. Guide us on our way.

These things we ask in the Precious Name of Jesus – Amen.

August 17, 2020

Dear Camano Chapel Family,
Last Sunday Pastor asked a rhetorical question, "Are we a part of a Family?" My answer to that is a resounding YES. We moved to Camano Island in April of 2004, finished unloading our belongings on a Saturday and attended Camano Chapel on Sunday. Most of you know when you move you plan to "shop around for a church." We walked into the Chapel and we were home.

Duane and I were both saved as kids, went through the usual ups and downs of spiritual growth. God was His faithful self, "...He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" ( Phil. 1:6). Praise Him.

In each of our many moves, He directed us to churches where we could receive Biblical teaching and mature in Him. Camano Chapel has added to our maturing. Paul talks in Phil 3:7-10 about knowing Christ- not knowing about Him, but knowing Him. The Bible tells us to meet together, to have the fellowship of believers, to study together, to pray for one another, to cry and rejoice together, to admonish one another. All of that contributes to knowing Christ more fully. And that, dear ones, makes us Family as we grow in Christ together.

Because you are Family, the decision (which I know was made with the Lord's guiding) to move to the Bellingham area has been made with mixed emotions. Most of my kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids are up there. My home here is big, and 2 1/2 acres is too much to keep up anymore. My life verses are Prov. 3:5&6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." The King James version says, "He will direct your paths." In all my years, He has done this as I trust in Him.

Thank you Camano Chapel Family for being there for me in some of the most difficult times in life. You were so precious during Duane's illness and homegoing. You encouraged, loved, served, you were present. God was honored by you and we were blessed. Thank you also for supporting our grandson and his wife (Danny & Taylor Atkins) as they minister in Germany. They love Jesus so much and your support is so encouraging for them.

This year has been so unique but we have stayed together through technology and prayer. We have done what Families do- sticking together and supporting each other in every way we possibly can.

Thank you, Church Family, for helping me to continue to grow in Knowing Christ these past 16 years.

May God bless each one of you.
Geri Atkins

NEW STATE MANDATE:

MASKS NOW REQUIRED AT THE OUTDOOR SERVICE

The state mandates for churches were updated on August 10 which includes the following:

“All employees, members, and visitors in attendance shall wear face coverings before, during, and after the service (whether indoor or outdoor).”

The following individuals are exempt from the state face covering requirement: Children younger than 2 years old, children 2 to 4 are recommended but not required to wear a mask, persons with a medical condition, mental health condition, developmental or cognitive condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering. If you are unable to wear a mask for any of the above reasons, we understand. We also have the “drive in” option for those unable or uncomfortable wearing a mask.

A word from Pastor Kris: “Weather permitting, we’ll continue our outdoor services with masks required in order to follow God’s instituted authority. As I recently taught us as a church family, there are three reasons to defy government. They are (1) when the government commands citizens to do something immoral, (2) when the government commands citizens to engage in idolatry, and (3) when the government commands citizens to not speak about Jesus and the Gospel. Wearing a mask does not fit these three criteria. I also believe the mask requirement is a wonderful opportunity to sacrifice in love towards one another and in our commitment to worship God together as a church family. If our health permits it, let’s continue to gather together wearing masks with thanksgiving that we’re able to freely worship God!”

Staying Focused

Sandy Shook
Administrative Assistant

As a follower of Christ, reading and watching the news can be discouraging and to be honest, at times overwhelming. I walk away from the newest headline feeling like Eeyore, the character out of Winnie-the-Pooh. Do you remember him? He was the sad, gray donkey that was always gloomy and pessimistic. That’s how I feel at times, and in shock over all that seems to be happening. Do any of you feel that way?

But then I remember- I have a Savior who is in control and has victoriously overcome the world! None of what is going on today is a surprise to God. God is in absolute control. John 16:33 tells us “…in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” and James 1:2-4 tells us to embrace these times of difficulty with joy since they mature us as Christians. Matthew 6:25-27 tells us not to worry about our life, and that our heavenly Father will take care of us as He takes care of the birds of the air. Satan likes nothing better than to get our focus off of Jesus and what better way than to get us to worry?

Jesus gave us several commands in Matthew chapters 22 & 28:

Matthew 22:37-39 says “…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Matthew 28:19-20 tells us “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We have control in how we respond to both of these commands. We also have purpose in both these commands. I encourage you not to get distracted by world events. This does not mean withdraw from the world. But we are not to be filled with worry. We are to keep our focus on Jesus and the task He has given us. We are to be image bearers for Him in a world that is lost. Ask yourself  “How does Christ want me to love my neighbor?” and “How can I share the hope that is within me with someone who doesn’t see hope in the world?” What Christ tells you to do will be unique to you. He has created only you for this purpose. Then go and do it.

Trust in the Lord

By Teresa VanSant

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding…” Proverbs 3:5 NLT

Last summer when I was in the hospital, I was faced with making some big decisions. I was also faced with immense feelings of guilt, disappointment, fear, and shame. I have battled an eating disorder for my entire adult life at various levels. Some years were better than others. My childhood, youth, and young adult life was scattered with trauma and struggles. The way I learned to find a sense of control and comfort was by restricting food and controlling my outside environment when my insides felt so out of control. Many do this or some may choose other ways of trying to assert control.

Last year, I believe the Lord knew I was ready to live free of the guilt, fear, and shame that I have carried for so long. We don’t always understand the methods or ways in which God works. I think we believe God is only at work when good things are happening...but what if those good things really come out of our struggles? God wants to refine us so that we can reflect Him in how we live. I thought I was only going to be in the hospital for two weeks and come home. But God had a different plan. He wanted me to run the marathon this time and not the sprint. I was faced with a decision. I could come home and stay bound to the eating disorder or I could go to an inpatient treatment center and work through the deep-rooted shame. I decided to open my bible. God led me to a verse that I have heard many times, but I wrote it down and began to pick it apart word for word. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding…” Proverbs 3:5 NLT.  I had to ask myself, what did this look like in my life right now? I wrote the verse out in my journal and studied each word. God was asking me to trust Him even when I didn’t understand and that I couldn’t rely upon myself to make decisions right then. I had to abandon my own desires and fully trust in His plan. That wasn’t and isn’t easy. I constantly had to remind myself to “not depend on my own understanding”. Wanting to do what I wanted to do was only displaying that I was putting my hope in myself.

I love that in Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) it says “But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

This last year has been hard work. I have wanted to quit, to hide, to hurry the process. I have had to let down my guard and allow God to fully penetrate my heart. And this only comes when I put my trust in Him, put aside my way of doing things, and walk in His ways. The best part of this year is seeing all of the wonderful things God has taught me through the darkness. Luke 11:3 (NKJV) says that God will “give us day by day our daily bread”. Trust in Him. Do not depend or lean on your own understanding. God will give you new strength. I know this because His Word says it is true and I trust in Him.

In what area of your day today do you need to trust Him and not depend on your own understanding?  Write out Proverbs 3:5 and then give that area in your life to God.

Where do you place your hope?
by Vickie Laures

Have you ever really thought about what you put your hope in? Not what you think you should, but what you actually do rely on for having a heart filled with hope?

Like, what areas in our life do we place our hope in? We can wander so easily and when we do, we do so without even realizing how we got so far off track.

Is our hope that one-day things will get back to normal again? Is it in the fact that eventually, we will make good money or that the job we want will come our way? Is it that there will be peace in this world again soon? Or maybe just in our country? Is it in a relationship?

A great way to know for sure that we are focusing our hope in the wrong direction is if we are down and discouraged because it isn't happening yet or we are waiting for a better tomorrow to find some rest for our minds.

That mentality can mean we are putting our hope in a situation instead of the place where our hope should really be placed. It can mean we are putting our hope in that situation happening, but what if?  What if the world stayed the same, what if it got worse? Would we never have hope again? Would we never have peace again?  What if the person died that we rely on for peace, for joy, for a life filled with hope? After thinking about those things, you have to consider, where does my hope come from, and what is it based in.

I know I have been there many times and had to reflect on this. I have seen how easily it can happen. When I got sideswiped and that person was taken away that I put my hope in it felt like my world had collapsed underneath me. And I didn't even see what I was doing, or how I had gotten there.

Through looking to God's word I now have a picture in my head of the disciples in prison and singing praises to God. They knew where their hope was and it was not in their surroundings.  It was not even in thinking they would be freed.  It was that Jesus was with them right where they were!  And even if things didn't go the way they thought they would, they embraced the uncertain future knowing and trusting in their Savior and that is where they placed their hope.

That is where our hope needs to be grounded. If we ground our hope there it will never be taken from us. Giving the unknown to the known God of the Bible, who has all the decisions of our future in His hand and walks through it with us, that is hope that we can trust in. That is ours always and forever. He is the provider of our peace and our security. The peace that passes all understanding. The light in the darkness. The one that will never leave us nor forsake us. Not that there will be a brighter tomorrow, but that He will be with us in every tomorrow and hold us tightly when we need Him to.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Billy Graham to Speak this Sunday at Camano Chapel
Image
Image

That was the headline in the local news 69 years ago. The young upcoming evangelist was holding a crusade in Seattle when asked to come and speak at the dedication service for the newly built Camano Chapel. August 29, 1951, was the day that 3,000 people gathered in an open field just south of the new church building, now called Heritage Hall.

It was a sunny 64 degrees with a slight breeze that day as hundreds of cars poured into Harry Olson’s field across what is now SW Camano Drive. Men wore suits, ties, hats. Women had come with their Sunday finest, many wearing oversized hats for shade. All were excited to see this new community “chapel in the woods” dedicated by a 32-year-old preacher from Montreat, NC…and the Camano Chapel Family was born.

This coming Sunday the Camano Chapel family will once again be meeting on that very same spot for outdoor services at 10:30 AM. We will be joining one another for worship and preaching of God’s Word. We will be social distancing, as required, but no masks are required while attending out-of-doors. In addition to seating on the grass, we will also be providing drive-in church during this outdoor service where you can choose to stay in your vehicle and listen on 92.3 FM. Cars will be parked facing the service on the south exit drive.

We hope you will join us as we get back to Camano Chapel’s roots doing church outside.

Pastor Mike

I don’t want to wander in the desert any longer than necessary to learn what god has in store for me.

by Gloria Walsh

In Exodus 14 we read how the Lord led His children out of Egypt. The question becomes, why did the Lord lead them “the long way around” instead of cutting across the land, which would have been shorter? In the scripture we are told why. How often we skip over this statement, but the reason for leading His children the long way around was because the Philistines were in the land before them and would have wiped out the Israelites had God not provided for them. What that tells us is that God has perfect knowledge. Shall we say, “Father knows best”?

After crossing the Red Sea and seeing the destruction of the entire Egyptian army pursuing them, they still did not believe God and ended up wandering in the desert for 40 years. The 40 years of wandering was of their own choice for their disbelief and disobedience. In Deuteronomy 8:2-5; 10-11 God reminds them why they were in the desert for 40 years. We read: “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you. When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.”

We must remember the Israelites did not have even as much as the Old Testament at this time. We have the benefit of God’s written Word which, over the course of 66 books, records His faithfulness to His children; His Grace, His Mercy, His promises made and promises kept, His provision for our needs, and His most precious gift- His son on the cross, and His Holy Spirit living in each of us. Yet, how many times do you and I wander needlessly in a desert of our own making because of our disbelief and disobedience? We have the resource of God’s written Word and The Holy Spirit living in us and yet, like the ten spies, at times we choose to believe God cannot do what He says He can do, instead of being like Joshua and Caleb and believing with God all things are possible. And how many times has our disbelief and disobedience caused those around us to wander as well? Let’s ask ourselves an honest question, how long will we choose to wander in our desert?

A Story of Hope revisited

This week we take you back to when Terry Carlson generously shared his awesome Story of Hope with us! Click the link below to read more!

"I went through a time between September 26, 2016 – December 23, 2016, when I spent more time in the hospital than in my combined lifetime. It wasn't just one event. It was a series of unrelated events which made me wonder what I had done which could have made God so upset with me."

God Almighty, the Sovereign Lord.
Kathy Harrison

My small group just finished a 20-week inductive study of Genesis. In Genesis we saw the beginning of time, of humankind, of sin, redemption, the notion of resurrection, and the idea of covenant- to name a few. We saw God promise to deliver His people no matter what and God’s faithfulness to His people even when they were not. We saw how God answered prayer. We watched as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others struggled with the desire to follow their God and yet failed in so many ways. They struggled with trusting God or taking things into their own hands.

From our viewpoint of looking back and having the complete Word of God it’s easy to be critical of their mistakes and disobedience, but God showed me that I am so much like them- prone to going my own way. From this study I have a renewed desire to acknowledge God as El Shaddai, God Almighty, the Sovereign Lord. One of the last personal application questions was – “How do you struggle with the sovereignty of God?” In what area do you need to set aside your own agenda and submit to God?

At times I take the worries and concerns of life and try to deal with them myself. That never works and just causes anxiety. Arthur Pink says “God is God in fact, as well as in name”. As His children, we need to remember that God “works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will” (Eph. 1:11).

One verse that continually encourages me is “and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). I have to agree with the late Charles Spurgeon who said “There is no attribute more comforting to His children than that of God’s Sovereignty.” Even in circumstances that are extremely difficult, God is in control and He is operating in my life out of love. He has a plan and I can trust that plan even when I can’t see the good or even see the end of the struggle.

As I write this my 93-year-old Dad is struggling with Covid19 (along with my sister, brother-in-law and nephew). Emphysema gives him increased risk for lung complications. I have to continually remind myself that God loves my Dad, and He is on the throne and in control of everything.

God is a Covenant-keeping, faithful God who loves His children and always operates out of His Wisdom in our lives. Whatever challenge you are facing, I urge you to trust in God who is “our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). I also encourage you to remember that “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Prov. 18:10).

God Knows All
Dana Brown

As believers, we know that there are no surprises for God.  He knew from the beginning of time that the Corona virus would be happening now.  We know that things happen on God’s timetable for a reason; this virus situation will be over when He says it is over.

In the meantime, we are called to pray, to keep our eyes up, and Armor on.  Because so many things have been canceled, it has been a time when many people are asking “What day is it?” The important thing to know is, “This is a day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Ps 118:24.

20/20 Vision
Ronda Clawson - Women’s Ministry Director

Ephesians 1:18 - I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people…

I have needed glasses to correct my eyesight since I was 8 years old. Every year I would go to the optometrist to get my vision checked and sometimes I would need a new pair of glasses. At first, I would wear the glasses only when I needed to read or see far away. But as time went on and my vision worsened, I needed to wear some type of corrective lenses all the time. Without my glasses or contacts, the world is a blurry smear of light, color and fuzzy shapes, almost completely indiscernible.

Have you ever sat in a car during a rainstorm without the windshield wipers on or tried to see out a side window during a downpour? Blurry vision is a lot like that. I am very thankful for the spectacles that allow my faulty eyes to see clearly and correctly.

I find it interesting that for a year bearing the number 2020, as in 20/20 vision, we have seen events in our nation and in our world that have blurred our normal lives and caused the near future to look hazy and unclear. How we view these events will depend upon the “glasses” we currently have on. Am I looking through the clarifying lenses of hope and God’s Word or are my glasses dirty and smeared with fear and doubt? Am I near-sighted and focusing on myself and my problems and circumstances, or am I choosing far-sightedness by focusing on Jesus and those around me? Does my spiritual eyesight need a new prescription or an adjustment? Am I spending time daily in reading the Bible and prayer?

Just like every morning I need to put on my glasses or contacts in order to see clearly, every day we need to pick up our Bibles, put on our spiritual lenses by reading God’s Word and asking Him to help us to see our lives, our neighbors, our world, and these events, through His eyes. What are You doing today, Lord? What is it that You want me to see today? Who do You want me to talk to, reach out to, share Christ with? What is it that You want me to do today? How can I be a part of Your plan and Your kingdom?

Lord, help me to see with new eyes the people and the events currently taking place. Open the eyes of my heart to a clearer understanding of who You are, Your purpose and plan for me at this time in history. Help me to focus my eyes on You, the hope I have in Christ and help me to share that with the world around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Romans 15:4 - For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

Hebrews 12:1-2 - …let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…

The Power of Words
Jennifer Clem - Event Scheduler/Office Assistant

Words have always been very meaningful to me, as I think is true for so many of us. One of the things I do at the Chapel is to coordinate Memorial Services. It’s always so interesting and special to hear the stories of people’s lives as family and friends pay tribute to their loved ones during the services. So many heartfelt words are shared about the person and I often wonder if the loved one knew for sure how very, very deeply they were loved by the gathered crowd of people. Roger and I were once invited to a gathering at the home of a friend who was terminal during which she wanted to say goodbye to her friends. It was such a meaningful time for everyone- she was prayed over, loved well, and we all had the opportunity to share with her what she’d meant to us. It really reminded me how important it is to tell people what they mean to us and why- it makes all the difference.

Another instance when I was reminded of the power of words was when a dear friend organized a 50th birthday party for me and people read aloud things they’d written to me- it was one of my favorite days!

These days we don’t typically get a lot of personal cards in the mail. Isn’t it a treat to see something in the mail that’s personal, written just to you? I encourage you to love deeply by starting to write cards to people in your life and to describe what you love about them. It’s a simple act that can be so meaningful and is a practical way to build up the body of Christ in love, both in our church family and beyond.

1Thessalonians 5:11 says, Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. What an excellent reminder and charge to love well!

God Planted You Where You Are

Pastor Mike & Cathie’s New Home
Mike & Cathie Brazeal – Connection Pastor

This is the week we will be moving into the home that we’ve had built this past year. Cathie and I are so excited and ready to plant ourselves once again. We tend to be the type of people who don’t like to move often. We’ve only owned two homes in the past 40 years and this will be our last, Lord willing. What originally prompted our interest in this area is that our daughter moved her family to Lake Stevens four years ago, so we started coming up to visit. When we visited Camano Island we were convinced it would be a great place to buy property for a future home, not knowing it would be in the near future. I remember liking the PNW ever since spending a year working on a crusade in Seattle in 2010 and even thought “I could live up here!”

About 2 years ago the Lord opened the door for me to join the Camano Chapel family as your Connection Pastor. That meant moving from the area we had called “home” all our lives. We were so predictable: forty years at the same church, the same city, and the same friends. Moving 1,300 miles away meant starting from scratch to establish a new life, a new routine, a new church family, new friends, and new habits. We take for granted just how much comfort and stability there is in routine until it’s all changed up. There’s a peace and predictability in doing the same thing in the same place for many years.

I believe God created people with the desire to have a “place” to belong, to be accepted, to be needed, to be wanted, to be included. That’s why you have a curious longing for Heaven, your forever home. He made us to need Him, and each other. He built society around the family unit and He built the family unit around a marriage and He built marriage around us belonging to Him. Break this chain in any place and the world becomes a broken place. God resides in Godly homes and blesses us when we commit our lives to Him. Cathie and I know that this new home of ours is a blessing and a gift from Him. We realize that He’s going to use it as one of the major building blocks in establishing that firm sense of belonging in our new “place.” Right here where He planted us, with all of you, Camano Chapel Family!

Joshua 24:15 says, choose this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Camano Chapel Reopening Plan
As a church, we are seeking to be subject to our governing authorities (Romans 13:1) while moving forward with safe and healthy gatherings. We believe we have a plan that will accomplish both goals. Click See our four-phase approach that follows Washington State mandates above.

PRAISE: As of May 23, Island County has been approved for phase 2. This phase allows for gatherings of up to five people and a host family. This is what phase 2 means for us as a church family: We are able to begin church in homes throughout Camano Island. In the early church, the believers met in the temple and from house to house (Acts 5:42).

We now have the wonderful opportunity to experience House Church ministry. Please pray about hosting one of our House Churches during this phase. Invite other church family members as well as your neighbors (up to five people plus the host family). A House Church will include watching the Chapel worship service, followed by sermon application questions (provided on our church homepage), and sharing of praises/prayer requests. Let's spread the light of Christ throughout our Camano neighborhoods!
For helpful instructions on hosting a Chapel House Church please click here.

Petition signing opportunity
Petitions to get Referendum 90 on the state ballot are available to sign under the south overhang next to the Heritage Hall. This referendum is an ongoing attempt to repeal the new law that mandates graphic sex education starting in Kindergarten and has a comprehensive and sometimes immoral curriculum through all grades. If you wish to sign a petition, just stop by the church before Thursday 5/28. Park on the frontage road and walk up the hill to the Heritage Hall overhang. Bring your own pen, although some will also be supplied.

The Answer
Nate Laun - Assistant to Facilities Director

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. - Galatians 6:9

I remember many nights as a young man approaching my high school graduation, praying and asking God, “What do you want me to do?” Should I go to bible school? Should I join the military? Do you want me to do outreach with YWAM? The silence in my bedroom was deafening, and no emotion was drawing my heart in any particular direction, it was just desperate for THE ANSWER, my purpose.

Many of you who are approaching (or are beyond) this point in life can relate to this appeal for direction. We’ve been taught about the great commission, but what exactly does God want us to do? The generation that has arrived at legal age today faces a world of great uncertainty; it seems the rug has been pulled out from under them. What were already difficult decisions and opportunities have been exchanged for “no, you can’t do that, and we don’t know when or if you ever can.”

I had no idea what God wanted for my life but now, years later, I can see His hand on the path I’ve followed through the years, and it wasn’t a simple answer; I didn’t go to bible college, or serve in the military, or do missions work. If God had responded to my plea those years ago, it would have filled a book and been a very strange read. I haven’t known what God wants me to do, but I continue to pray for His direction, with every event in life. And His reward has been the ability to look back and see His work in me and through me.

God’s calling on our life remains the same, during times of blessing and times of hardship. Though so many opportunities seem to have been lost, they are but a small portion of the abundant life God has provided us with. Troubling times bring with them opportunities of their own; to love others (John 13:34-35), and to reach hearts that would have been rock hard during times of plenty. To do good.

Whether we are just beginning adulthood, or awaiting the next mission from our Father, we do have a purpose and we can actively love one another and do good to all people in any situation.

New Story Of Hope from Marissa and Tyler.
April 23rd, 2019. I pulled that familiar white and purple stick out of a loud, crinkly package, took the test, and waited for results. Three minutes went by; my heart was pounding as I flipped the pregnancy test over to see two pink lines in that tiny little window. My eyes filled with tears of joy and thanksgiving to God; He had entrusted us again with another little life. You see, I had prayed for that baby, prayed for another little one to join our family. Little did I know that God had great plans for that tiny life, and that precious baby growing inside of me would grow Tyler’s and my relationship with God in ways we could not even fathom. HOPE IN THE DARKNESS

By Joyce Kramer

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?

Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. - Psalm 43:5 (ESV)

Emotions are an interesting marvel that God has given us. We can feel excited one moment and sadness another. It is the sad emotions and particularly depression, that we will look at today and specifically the lie that says, “I can’t bear being depressed.”

Depression is real – more so for women than men. It can range from mild feelings of sadness and grief to acute debilitating feelings that you cannot “snap out of.”

How well I remember October 28, 2001, right after the 9/11 attacks. My husband, Kris, started crying that morning and could not stop. We shortly learned he was experiencing emotional exhaustion and burnout with some depression. He could not read his Bible or pray. It required him to take a six-month rest leave from serving at the Chapel.

This certainly was a time when it felt like we could not bear the depression. However, this is just what Satan wants us to believe…. that we cannot get through it! Even though Kris was the one experiencing this valley, its effects touched me. To be honest, there were many days when I would stand in the shower and cry so my girls would not know. I would pray “Lord help us!” That was all I could pray at first. Yet God was there! How did I know that? Because I chose to believe God’s Word that says, Even though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death (or depression), I will fear no evil, for YOU ARE WITH ME (Psalm 23:4, emphasis mine). And God DID bring us through that time and enabled us to bear it!!

God brought hope to our hearts through our medical doctor, a Christian counselor, the help and prayers of our wonderful church family and most of all through the powerful Word of God. As Isaiah 26:3 says, You [God] keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Heavenly Father, I pray for anyone who might be struggling with depression. May they be willing to reach out for help from others and most of all from You. You are the only One who can bring hope to our hurting hearts in times of loss, fear, disappointment, and despair…. when we are so low, we cannot even pray. Remind us that You are walking with us and promising to bring us through the dark valley. Remind us that You will keep in perfect peace those who trust in You. In Jesus name, Amen.

Great Hope
By James Headrick, Elder

Habakkuk 3:17 (ESV)

Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there will be no herd in the stalls…

In these verses Habakkuk describes catastrophic events in the life of the ancient Middle East.  In that time if your crops were not producing food and you had no sheep to tend, your life would be destitute and there would be no hope for the future.  The government wasn’t there to bail you out and you couldn’t file for unemployment.  It would have been easy to complain and blame God for the circumstances.  If your family asked what the future would hold, it would have been easy to offer no hope and give no answer.

I remember watching the 1993 All-Star MLB all-star game when Randy Johnson (The Big Unit) pitched to left-handed batter John Kruk.  Randy threw his first pitch, a fast ball, well over Kruk’s head, but Kruk reacted like the ball was coming right at him.  Kruk was so scared for the rest of the at bat that he struck out swinging with the next three pitches.  Kruk must have felt that Randy was throwing directly at him, like he had a target on him.

Have you ever felt this way?  I know I have at various times in my life.  Maybe some of you feel this way now.  You see the circumstances that life has given you and it seems that there is no hope out there.  Do you feel sometimes that there is a giant target on your back saying, “Hit me here?”

There is great news however, we have great hope!

Habakkuk states in v.18, “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”

We have a choice to say “yet” to our crummy situations.  Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:16 (ESV), “In all circumstances, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

Remember this week that Jesus is our great hope.  He is the Author and Perfecter of Our Faith (Heb 12:2), our Deliverer (1 Thess. 1:10), our Great High Priest (Heb 4:14), the Light of the World (John 8:12), and Our Hope (1 Tim. 1:1).

Hello Camano Chapel church family,

The timeliness and timelessness of God’s Word to our current situation has been a frequent topic in our discussions. Women, if you are thinking of joining us, it is not too late! We would love to have you. Contact Ronda Clawson at rondaclawson@camanochapel.org or go to camanochapel.org for more details.

Men’s Online Bible Study
Our second online Bible Men’s study will be starting on May 11th. It will be a three-part study entitled, "Malachi for Men".  Each study will focus on spiritual renewal in this last prophetical book of the Old Testament. We will be challenged to set goals in our worship, our service, and our giving. If you're feeling a little flat in your walk with Christ, this is an opportunity to be renewed in your commitment to Him. Each Bible study has a personal study sheet and a corresponding video teaching by Pastor Kris. To begin, go to our church homepage and click on the men's online Bible study picture.

Becoming A Prayer Warrior
Beth Erickson – Assistant to Children & Youth Ministries, Graphic Designer/Web Master

Over the past few years and into this new and unprecedented time, God has put it on my heart to pray. To become a prayer warrior, to get up an hour before I need to in order to spend time in His word and in communication with Him. In Psalm 17:6 it says I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. God hears our every prayer; he wants communication and a relationship with us. He wants us to lean into Him when we are unsure of where life is going or what is going to happen next. We don’t know how long we will be asked to stay at home, or to social distance, but while we have extra time in our lives, since we are not cramming our calendars full of social opportunities and appointments, why not spend some extra time in the Word, in communication with our great God! Ask your friends and family how you can pray for them. Write your prayers down in a journal or a prayer notebook so that you can look back and see the ways in which he has answered.

We find encouragement to approach God’s throne with confidence that He hears in Hebrews 4:15-16 when it says, For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, I have seen God answer prayers. I have seen them answered the same day that I communicated them to Him and I have seen them answered many months later. He does hear us and He does provide mercy and grace in our time of need. He understands our fears, our insecurities, and our anxieties.

Psalm 56:3-4, When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise — in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? No matter what you are struggling with today, remember to put your trust in God. He is in control of everything that happens here on this earth and he has a plan for ALL of it.

I pray that today you will approach God’s throne of grace with confidence and I remain confident of this: you will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13) Just as I have seen him answer my prayers over the years. He has not always answered the way I want Him to and I am still waiting for His answer in some areas, but He has answered, and when I look back He has provided everything that I have needed, according to His will.

Dear Lord, remind me when I am afraid to put my trust in You and Your word because Your word is more powerful than a two-edged sword (Heb. 4:12). I trust in You! I am not afraid! What can this earth and mere mortals do to me? They cannot remove me from Your presence! Thank you, Lord, for the gift of knowing You! Amen

His Garden Ministry

First Fruits

His Garden was the vision of Kathie and Paul Irwin 8 years ago. That 'seed' was planted years before that, and "God made it grow!" (1 Corin. 3:6) "To share and bless others with what God has created and to glorify Him through it" was and remains the purpose of this ministry. Karen Reid offered the use of her property at Driftwood Shores, and the vision became a reality. Last year (2019), as growing conditions deteriorated, the Lord, through Pastor Brett's suggestion, led His Garden to pursue building a new garden on Camano Chapel property. A schematic proposal by Karen and Jim Bruce was presented and approved by the Board in September, 2019. Wasting no time, under the project management of Jim Bruce, over 20 men of our church (including Pastor Brett and Pastor Mike) worked together to construct the new garden. From the inception of the idea, God orchestrated every last detail of the project in record time! Even the fencing, left over from the kiddie's playground, fit the garden's dimensions exactly! There were other awesome provisions we knew were "God things"! The pictured bouquet was the “first fruits” of our wonderful garden from bulbs that were planted last November when the raised beds were first built. His Garden is now fully operational and will supply the beautiful flowers at church each Sunday during the growing season. The gardens also provide floral arrangements for Peace Haven and Rest Haven stays, many weddings, memorial services, flowers for shut-ins, get well flowers and other special events throughout the year. As "Designer" Kathie and "Master Gardener and Overseer" Karen with their team plant new flowers and greenery, they look ahead with great excitement to see how the Lord will lead. He has blessed the ministry with over 20 volunteers who plant, water, weed and arrange to bless many in a wide variety of ways with what God has created!  Warm, fun fellowship always prevails! If you are interested in serving in His Garden Ministry please contact Kathie Irwin at vpirwin1@msn.com or Karen Bruce at knbruce@frontier.com. Experience not required.

Mowing at the Chapel

Mowing 11

This past Friday (4/17) we had a mowing competition between John Deere and Husqvarna here at the Chapel. Can’t say who won, but we were able to mow and weed-eat the church campus. The grass was starting to get the upper hand as our normal mowing company was not able to come out and mow. As you can see, some of us had more fun playing the blower air guitar! If you are interested in helping out in the coming weeks send an email to markpeterson@cmanochapel.org

A big thank you goes out to: George Colby, Charlie Keith, Bob Schroepfer, Steve Miner, Ray and Kathy Harrison, Kris Kramer, Carlis and Lucy Bailon-Schubert and Brett Reid

Hope

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 5:3-5 ESV

Noun: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.

Verb: want something to happen or be the case.

The Hope of the Bible, that trust in our heart where we find comfort and direction, is that noun form by which we live daily, trusting that sure expectation of God and all of the strength found in His faithfulness. In other words, our hope is not based on wanting something or wishful thinking, it is based on us living confidently in what is certain, the loving character of Jesus.
And they, that know thy name, have hope in thee; for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. Ps 9:10 (Wycliffe)

We the Church need to rejoice, yes rejoice, in our suffering as it develops endurance in us with each opportunity that we face, enriching growth to expand our character. Trusting that our developing character will be reflected with increased biblical hope that directs our daily lives.  Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” Yes, things happen, even bad things, but we can have hope even in the midst of tragedy.

Let your hope be the Light in dark times, let your hope be the Joy that fills our communities and let our hope be the Good News of our hearts to the world seeking for certain things that can only be found in God. As the great hymn, The Solid Rock declares, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

Easter Recap!
We had the most unique Easter weekend on record here at Camano Chapel. 412 views tuned in for our Good Friday service, and 759 views for our Easter Morning service. Keeping in mind that most average views represent 1-4 people, that could translate to well over 3000 people tuning in over the weekend. In addition, our special kids programs for Good Friday and Easter morning had 172 combined views. If you haven’t had a chance to see either of these services yet, you can view them anytime by clicking here. These strange times are giving us new ways of sharing the Good News, and we are doing our best to take every opportunity we can to share the hope that we have. A huge thank you to everyone working behind the scenes, as well as those who contributed to our service. A special shout out goes to those who sang or played in our small cyber-choir, to those who contributed other special music and to our tech and editing team! An Easter weekend Thank You to: Tobin Fekkes, Sam Nicholas, Jan Fekkes, George Colby, Makenzie Colby, Bo Steele, Leann Fry, Gary Payne, Steve Moll, Leanna Crawford, Natalie Bennett, Christina Harrison, Lance Curry, Heather Gregory! Easter Outreach
On the Saturday before Easter 130 bags of Easter encouragement were delivered to the residents of Josephine Sunset Home. Included in the bags were a Daily Bread booklet, eggs with candy, snacks, a stuffed animal (some said a prayer if you pressed a button!), and a handwritten card from the Chapel. Thank you to Joan Haidle and Renee Herigstad for your work on this, we know the residents and staff were grateful and we are too!

Encouragement & Ministry Updates: 10:00 AM April 13, 2020

Weekly Devotional
“At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’” Matthew 18:1-4, English Standard Version.

This last month we have all been dealt a big hand of change. Personally, I have had to setup a home office and learn how to be a vlogging youth director, all under the watchful eye of my almost 3-year-old assistant, Millie Claire. Although the days are filled with many questions, demands, and laughter, it has directed me toward this piece of scripture from Jesus teaching his disciples. Jesus explained that in order to make it into the kingdom of heaven we would need to humble ourselves and take on a childlike faith. For many of us humility doesn’t come easily and it often occurs through a radical change. The events of this pandemic have brought me and many others to this state.

A childlike faith asks questions, a childlike faith talks to the stranger, a childlike faith relies on the Father.

I encourage you today to take the time to reflect on your childlike faith: ask your questions through prayer, seek God in scripture, share your joy in Christ with your neighbor, and most of all take time today and say: Thank You PAPA for all the love you provide.

Operation Love Your Neighbor
During this unique season of life Camano Chapel has launched a new ministry (which cooperates with Governor Jay Inslee's edict) which allows us to deliver groceries to people in our community that can, won't, or shouldn't leave their homes because of the elevated risk to their health. This ministry PRIMARILY but not EXCLUSIVELY targets senior citizens and/or those with an underlying medical condition.

Here is how it works.

  1. If you are a senior and/or have an underlying medical condition and need groceries delivered:
  2. Call the church office at 387-7202, Monday - Friday from 8am to 4pm.
  3. The deadline to get your order into the church is Wednesday by 4pm. After that, your groceries will be delivered the following week.
  4. The Camano Plaza IGA receives, fills, and totals up the cost of your groceries (You pay for your groceries, the delivery is free!).
  5. You will receive a phone call from the Camano Chapel volunteer driver "around noon" on Thursday telling you what the total cost is of your grocery order and their approximate arrival time.
  6. You will be instructed to put your check (made out to "Camano Chapel") or cash (try to get as close to it as possible as we are not able to make change) in an envelope. Put the money in the envelope, seal it, and put it on the front porch of your home with a small rock, planter, or shoe on top of the envelope so it doesn't blow away.
  7. The driver will call you one more time while in your driveway telling you that he/she has arrived with your groceries and will put them by your front door. NO NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR UNTIL THE DRIVER HAS LEFT (They are using gloves to deliver the bags of groceries to your door).
  8. The driver will knock or ring the doorbell, signifying that you can pick up your groceries after they've left your driveway.
  9. And that's it!

This outreach ministry is now open to our whole community.

Children’s Ministry
Starting this Sunday, Children's Ministries will have video lessons available for every Sunday morning. Along with the video lesson, there will be downloadable worksheets for parents to access. The lesson and the worksheets will be available on the Kid’s Cove Facebook page and www.camanochapel.org/kids.

The Family Gathering
This Wednesday tune in for the “Family Gathering” at 7 pm, www.camanochapel.org. Pastor Brett will give updates, followed by a short devotion from Pastor Mich.

Encouragement & Ministry Updates: 10:30 AM April 6, 2020

We Are God’s Masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so that we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” NLT
The word used for Masterpiece is the Greek word “Poiema” which literally means “A thing made”, or it can also be translated Workmanship or Handiwork. It’s also the root word from which we get our English word “poem.”  Think about that for a minute…we are God’s Workmanship! We are God’s Handiwork! We are God’s Poems! We are God’s Masterpieces!
One method God uses to build our character is through times of testing and trials

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” ESV

Michelangelo is world-renowned for his 14 completed masterpieces. Lesser known are his 30 statues that remain unfinished to this day. He once was asked what he was doing as he began chipping a new piece of stone.  “Liberating an angel” he responded.
We too can sometimes feel like one of those arrested and unfinished statues. Maybe some of you feel defeated or discouraged today. We need to be patient, wait on His timing and let His work have its full effect on us. We are His unfinished masterpieces.

Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” ESV

Encouragement & Ministry Updates: 10:30 AM March 30, 2020

Dear Brother and Sisters in Christ,
Please take encouragement from this short devotional from Elder Tim Bardon and continue reading to learn about all that is happening in Camano Chapel ministries. - Camano Chapel Staff

Devotion:
Like many of you, I wrestle with how to address this opportunity that has been presented to us. I determine how I will react by my choices. Don’t get me wrong- lots of things have changed in a short amount of time and we have many new directives on how to do this, but I believe that we have the power to choose how we share ourselves during this opportunity.
I opted to use the word opportunity because I look at it as an action word, taking action to resolve how we will react to what is presented each day. Our primary choice is to let God be in control and allow Him to bring Peace and Comfort to us rather than letting the media place apprehension and fear in our lives. I was surfing social media and ran across a post that clearly identified that God’s name is I AM. He has always been and will always be our Lord and Savior. As we approach celebrating Easter we need to share with the world His love and His perfect plan of salvation so that we can have an everlasting relationship with Him through His son Jesus. God doesn’t change. His name is not I WILL BE, or I CAN BE, rather we need to live in the knowledge that it’s I AM. Do you believe this? If so, then decide to live daily with that understanding and with joy in the good times and during challenges. We choose the opportunity to share with those around us by being encouraging and joy-filled people of the Living God.  I AM loves and cares for you. Display and share His love in your daily life and always, trusting that God is in control.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”  Ex 3:14 ESV
- Tim Bardon

OUTREACH

Operation Love Your Neighbor
During this unique season of life Camano Chapel has launched a new ministry (which cooperates with Governor Jay Inslee's edict), allowing us to deliver groceries to people in our community that can, won't, or shouldn't leave their homes because of the elevated risk to their health. This ministry targets PRIMARILY but not EXCLUSIVELY to senior citizens and/or those with an underlying medical condition. Mich has spoken about this ministry the past 1-2 weeks on our weekly Sunday morning and our Wednesday night Family Gathering videos. This new ministry is called OPERATION LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR.
We had a "soft opening" last week by making it available to those on our Chapelites email list, but now we are opening it up to the entire church family...some 1,200 +/- people on our newsletter email list. So, here's how it works.

If you are a senior and/or have an underlying medical condition and need groceries delivered:

  1. Call the church office at 387-7202, Monday - Friday from 8am to 4pm.
  2. The deadline to get your order in to the church is Wednesday by 4pm. After that, you must wait to get your groceries delivered until the following week.
  3. The Camano Plaza IGA is receiving, filling, and totaling up the cost of your groceries (You pay for your groceries, the delivery is free!).
  4. You will receive a phone call from the Camano Chapel volunteer driver "around noon" on Thursday telling you the total cost is of your grocery order and their approximate arrival time.
  6. The driver will call you one more time while in your driveway telling you that he/she has arrived with your groceries and will put them by your front door. NO NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR UNTIL THE DRIVER HAS LEFT (They are using gloves to deliver the bags of groceries to your door).
  7. The driver will knock or ring the doorbell, signifying that you can pick up your groceries after they've left your driveway.
  8. And that's it!

This outreach ministry will become available to the entire community starting the following week. Please be praying for these bags of groceries that are filled with love and prayer, in the hopes that those receiving the groceries would consider that love and message of Jesus Christ as together we "Love Our Neighbors."

Encouragement & Ministry Updates: 10:00 AM March 23, 2020

Good Morning Camano Chapel Family -
We pray that each of you is healthy and doing well in these uncertain times. We’re writing to provide you with encouragement, along with ministry updates and how you can stay connected to your church family during this unprecedented season of life.

A short devotional from Pastor Matt Lee:
Five years ago I went through a very difficult time of medical issues in combination with burn out. It was a perfect storm! I remember begging God to bring me home! It was a great time of uncertainty for me and my family. But God was saying, “I have you right where I want you,” completely dependent on Him! Through the encouragement of God and others, I started focusing on what was going well instead of all the obstacles.

Colossians 3:15-16 (ESV) says, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

This uncertain time in our world may have brought you to a place of fear, but God may be using this as an opportunity for you to be thankful for what you do have. Spend some time with your family talking about all that you are thankful for today and place your full trust in Him knowing He is in control. -Pastor Matt Lee

Children’s Ministry Update

We know that there are so many changes taking places in these last few weeks and for little ones sometimes change is hard. We just want to assure you that we are praying for you and your children in this time. We miss being able to minister to our kids in person but are doing our best to try new things to “stay connected” because we know it’s important.

Here are a couple things we are doing during this time:

Follow our Facebook Page:
Camano Chapel Kids Cove

Tristan and I are working on having helpful articles, blog posts, craft ideas and bible videos for you and your children to do or watch together. Also, please reach out to us via our Facebook page or email or give the church office a call. We want to know how you are doing and how we can pray for you.

Lifeway has produced a weekly video series which includes a video, downloadable worksheet, parent discussion guide and even a Missions themed video to correspond with the lesson. Each Sunday, we will post a link to the video on our Facebook page along with a few thoughts or discussion starters for you to have with your children. When you click the link on Sunday, Lifeway will prompt you to create a profile and will provide step-by-step instructions.

We are looking forward to being together again and having fun with your children while learning the Word of God! We are hopeful that all our summer plans can take place and are excited to for Camp Camano and VBS!

Coronavirus Update: 4:15PM March 21, 2020

Fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,

The elders of Camano Chapel have decided to suspend the Sunday Prayer Group session's effective immediately. This is in keeping with recommendations from the CDC, our local government, and health professionals in our church body. In addition, the church office remains closed. Our church staff were able to migrate all essential operations to work from home where they are able to take calls on our phone number (360) 387-7202, and email.

We want to end this email with a promise from Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Trusting God in Challenging Times

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its welling. Selah” Psalm 46:1-3

As I read these words they still ring true, today and forevermore. When I gave my heart to Christ as a teen I watched as He did the impossible first hand in my own life. He transformed everything about me. Most of all, how I perceived Him. For the past four decades He’s proven Himself faithful and true. Every time! With this current worldwide crises I am again remined that my hope is not in government, finances, science, wisdom, or any of man’s actions. My hope is still in the One that saved me and promised me a future and a hope. A hope that transcends my current circumstances and any anxiety. God is not overcome with new news, much less bad news, it’s old news to Him and He’s still on the throne. All of His plans are right on track and in their perfect timing. Our part is to just trust and obey by faith for great is your reward in Heaven.

Praying for you fellow church family,
Pastor Mike Brazeal

We continue to monitor multiple websites regarding the coronavirus. We are working to stay “connected” with each other during this difficult time. Although the office is closed, our phone is still available for any prayer needs or general questions (360) 387-7202. Please also visit our website where you can give online and also put a prayer request in as well. The website is a great place to visit to view Pastor Kris’ sermons each week. They are posted at 8:30am on Sunday mornings.

familygathering

This Wednesday, March 18th we are launching our first episode of the “Family Gathering”. This new ministry is in response to the suspending of the mid-week ministries at Camano Chapel. Each Wednesday at 7pm you will be able to access the latest episode either on our website or YouTube channel. The Family Gathering will include conversations with Pastor Kris and Pastor Brett from the previous week’s sermon, interviews with staff and members of our congregation about their faith journey, and an update on new ministries or missionaries.

Coronavirus Update: 5:00PM March 12, 2020

Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

We are thankful that God has promised to be with us no matter what! That’s a promise we can live by, especially in uncertain times. Please do not forget these promises as you read the updates from our email, website, government websites, news agencies, podcasts, or wherever you might receive your updates.

Because of unfolding events this week, we are suspending worship services at this time in an effort to join with our community and region in helping to slow the coronavirus from spreading. However, we are offering a Sunday morning prayer session 10:00 am. These prayer groups will meet throughout the church building. They will have no more than 10 people, as we will be following the high standards set forth from the California Health Department that states, “Gatherings of people at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 should be limited to no more than 10.” We encourage those who are ill, pregnant, elderly or who have compromised immune systems to remain home and join us online for our weekly sermon (www.camanochapel.org). These prayer groups will be interceding for our community, our church, our country, and other needs. If you plan on joining us, please enter through the Worship Center's east doors and you'll be directed to a prayer session.

THE ONLINE SUNDAY SERMON will be posted by 8:30 am on Sunday morning on our YouTube channel. Visit www.camanochapel.org to watch the sermon. Pastor Kris will be starting a special series called, "Our Sovereign God". In this time of need, our goal is for us to turn our focus toward our God who controls all things at all times.

Coronavirus Update 11:00AM March 10, 2020

We are aware of the concern regarding the coronavirus and continue to monitor its effect on Snohomish and Island counties. According to the Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/transmission.html), the coronavirus spreads between people who are in close contact with one another and through droplets in the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever, cough and/or shortness of breath. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or feeling sick in general (cold, flu), we ask that you remain at home.

This is an opportunity to show love and protect vulnerable family members and our congregation. If you are ill, get rest and worship with us on our livestream Sundays at 9:00 am and 11:15 am, at (https://camanochapel.org). You can also watch services at a later time on our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/c/camanochapel).

Steps to Prevent the Spread of Illness

  • Are you sick or at high risk from infections? – Stay home
  • Hand hygiene – Wash your hands with soap and water often, we’ve also placed hand sanitizer throughout our campus
  • Social distancing – Be creative, find new ways to greet and welcome that don’t involve hand-to-hand contact
  • Routine cleaning – If you are using shared equipment, be sure to disinfect before and after each use
  • Serve others – Use this opportunity to help individuals access food & household supplies, medications, and maintain social connections

We will continue to monitor the Washington State, Snohomish & Island Counties, and the Stanwood Camano School District websites. Please see the bottom of this message for links to those resources.

We are thankful for the opportunity to help and serve those in our community when presented with adversity, and we pray that otherwise hardened hearts would be opened to hearing the message of God’s unfailing love.
